East London Teaching School Hub is a member of the pan-London ITT provider network. We work collegiately to help prospective trainees, local schools and ITT providers engage with teacher training in East London.

Schools have a wide range of providers they can work with, allowing them to choose partnerships that best meet their individual needs and context. To illustrate the positive impact of these collaborations in ITT, we have captured a selection of case studies. You can read them here.

Mulberry College of Teaching (MCoT)

East London Teaching School Hub is a proud partner of Mulberry College of Teaching: MCoT is a school-based initial teacher training provider working with a strong partnership of local secondary schools based in East London. This means together we offer a richly integrated hub-school programme to ensure that you are immersed in the best evidence-informed research and practice in schools.

We are passionate about the transformative power of teaching. We strive to provide an inclusive and aspirational learning environment for all our students that focuses on excellent outcomes, collaboration, and creative teaching. We invest in and value our teachers. By learning to teach with us, you will be immersed in schools and will learn from school-based subject-specialists as well as a range of expert practitioners whose practice is grounded in the best available research.

From October 2025, we will be open for applications to train to teach in Secondary English for 2026-2027.

LETTA Trust

London East Teacher Training Alliance

LETTA Trust’s values, of innovation, aspiration, generosity and equality, underpin how they work together and support their decision-making. LETTA offers both fee paying and salaried apprenticeship courses for the 3-7 and 5-11 age phases. They also offer a SEND specialism for all age phases, including 7-14, and a maths specialism.

Facilitators leading centre-based training are selected for their subject knowledge and excellent level of engagement with trainees. They include well known writers, researchers and consultants. The content is delivered through a combination of face-to-face training, live webinars, school visits, online study tasks, projects and school-based practice in four settings.

They can offer trainees the opportunity to be creative and innovative. LETTA include a science residential and links with local theatres, arts organisations and museums. Trainees’ wellbeing is important to them, so they offer a varied package of support from informal to formal specialist help and advice. They also have a mentor training programme which supports mentors in their role.

Alongside centre-based training, trainees’ study for their PGCE with 60 Masters credits. This is led by tutors from Sheffield Hallam University (SHU).

HTSA

Hackney Teaching and Schools’ Alliance

The HTSA offer a salaried postgraduate teaching apprenticeship with a placement in one of their alliance schools, leading to Qualified Teacher Status and a PGCE. Their high retention of teachers is based on the reputation for excellence in Initial Teacher Training, and many of their former trainees are now successful teachers in their schools. The schools in their network are diverse, and carefully match trainees with their placement school to ensure a successful fit, as well as great outcomes for each trainee and for the class they are placed in.

As well as gaining invaluable experience in the classroom, apprentices are supported by knowledgeable experts from within the schools who mentor them through the course. The apprenticeship is a school-led, employment-based route, meaning trainees earn the inner London unqualified teacher salary during training. There are no tuition fees to pay, as they are met by the apprenticeship levy.

They offer a supportive local network led by specialists with expertise in teacher development, and the opportunity to access additional high-quality professional development through a tailor-made HTSA training programme. This is designed to complement the course elements led by their partner university, London Metropolitan University.

Primary Advantage Initial Teacher Training

PAITT have 150 teachers across eight primary schools in Hackney with almost a third of them having trained as student teachers with PAITT.

They train teachers for the profession, not just for the individual school, but find many stay with them growing as both excellent practitioners and leaders. PAITT have long been a close partner of the Institute of Education – UCL offering the School Direct Tuition Fee route, and are also partnered with London Metropolitan University for the Post Graduate Apprenticeship Programme.
